San Diego, CA - John Leslie

How dare Coke or Coca Cola check for offensive words in their promotion and not include the "R" word.  I find the apology unacceptable.  If this had been the "N" word it would be all over the press.  Shame on everyone.   The press, Coca Cola, and the public for not being outraged.

Do you know how hurtful it is to call a child or adult with Down Syndrome the "R" word?  They hurt and cry just like us when we are called hurtful names.  Yet they are less able to defend themselves.

Even more frustrating is that these individuals can't defend them selves.  There is not civil rights leader to mobilize on their behalf.   Where is the outrage in the Down Syndrome community?

Come on people sound out and re-post this entry.  Sound out.  Call the press and Coke today.  Please for all our community.  Stop the hurt.

October is Down Syndrome month and now is the time to use this offensive case to sound out.

  3. I haven't heard about this till now, but im so glad that someone has made this public an brought to our attention. I have to say my jaw dropped when I read this, to me the "r" word is even more offensive than the "n" word, because its NEVER used in any other way than to be offensive an just plain hurtful. in my house the "r" word is treated as a "bad" word an is NOT allowed to be said. the first time I ever heard someone use the "r" word in reguards to my son, I felt rage an wanted to physically hurt them as much as they mentally hurt my son. there is no sence of satisfaction in calling a mentally disabled person any kind of hurtful name, so why say it or ever permit it? so shame on you coke cola for not standing up for ALL of your products comsumers, includeing my son who loves to drink your soda...at least "used" to...!!
